2010 Year in Review

Sometimes it's hard in this industry to remember all of the things you have to do on a daily basis, let alone throughout an entire year. At Pasatiempo we have had an incredible year, completing several major projects, while making huge advancements within our daily golf course operations as well. The following is a condensed list of some of the maintenance department's accomplishments during 2010:

1. The installation of a completely new Toro irrigation system. This project started in the fall of 2009, and the last truck pulled off of the property in June. Over the summer we spent most of our time making small adjustments and fine-tuning the system, but the overall improvements that were made are immeasurable.

2. The transition of 25 acres of maintained turf over to native grass meadow. Although the grow-in process for our native grass areas will be ongoing for many seasons, we have completed the seeding process, and can now focus our efforts on the establishment phase of the project.

3. The renovation of our practice area and driving range. This was a project that was accomplished in conjunction with the installation of the irrigation system, and was completed toward the end of the irrigation project.

4. Operation Goat. This fall we brought in 150 brush goats to clear 11 acres of canyons throughout the back nine. This ended up being a very successful event by not only helping us to accomplish the goal of restoring of our canyons to the more natural look they had when Alister MacKenzie originally designed the course, but was also successful in drawing huge interest from the local community, golfing community, and our membership.

These are just a few of the major events that occurred at Pasatiempo over the course of 2010, and I'm sure that I'm forgetting something. I would like to thank our staff for making these projects a success by way of their hard work, and I would also like to thank our members and guests for their understanding and support over the past year.
